TCT Annular Cutter

TCT annular cutters for fast and efficient through-hole drilling in steel plates, structural steel, stainless steel, and other metal materials. Carbide-tipped cutting teeth provide good wear resistance and productivity for repeated hole making. Available in a wide range of diameters, cutting depths, and four common shank systems, with special versions available for difficult-to-machine and heat-resistant alloys.

TCT Annular Cutters for Metal Hole Drilling

Persistools TCT annular cutters are designed for efficient through-hole drilling in steel plates, structural steel, stainless steel, and other metal workpieces.

Unlike conventional twist drills that remove material across the entire hole diameter, annular cutters machine only the circumference of the hole and leave a solid slug in the center. This reduces the amount of material being cut and makes annular cutters particularly suitable for larger-diameter holes and thick metal plates.

The cutting edges use brazed tungsten carbide tips, providing good hardness and wear resistance while maintaining a practical cost for industrial hole-making applications. TCT annular cutters are particularly useful when drilling harder materials or producing larger holes repeatedly.

A broad range of diameters and cutting depths can be supplied for common magnetic drilling and workshop applications.

Typical applications include:

  • Structural steel fabrication
  • Steel plate drilling
  • Machinery manufacturing
  • Bridge and construction steelwork
  • Railway and heavy equipment manufacturing
  • Stainless steel fabrication
  • Large-diameter through-hole drilling
  • On-site magnetic drilling

Four Common Shank Systems

Persistools TCT annular cutters can be supplied with several common connection systems to match different magnetic drilling machines:

  • Weldon Shank
  • Universal / Nitto Shank
  • Threaded Shank
  • Fein Shank

These shank systems cover many commonly used magnetic drilling machine configurations.

Special Cutters for Difficult Materials

For standard structural steel, conventional TCT annular cutter geometry provides a practical balance between cutting efficiency, tool life, and cost.

However, difficult-to-machine materials may require a different approach.

For applications involving stainless steels, nickel-containing alloys, heat-resistant alloys, and other demanding materials, cutter geometry, carbide grade, tooth design, and other parameters can be adjusted according to the actual workpiece material and drilling conditions.

Instead of forcing one standard cutter design to cover every material, special-purpose annular cutters can be developed where higher heat resistance or improved cutting stability is required.

What is a TCT annular cutter used for?
TCT annular cutters are used for producing through holes in steel plates, structural steel, stainless steel, and other metal materials. Because the cutter removes material mainly around the circumference of the hole rather than machining the entire cross-section, it is particularly efficient for larger-diameter and thick-plate drilling.
Persistools TCT annular cutters can be supplied with Weldon, Universal/Nitto, Threaded, and Fein shanks to suit different magnetic drilling machines and tool-holding systems.
Yes. TCT annular cutters can be used for harder metal materials, but tool geometry and cutting conditions become increasingly important as material machinability decreases. For stainless steel, nickel-containing alloys, heat-resistant alloys, and other demanding materials, we can provide application-specific carbide grades and cutter geometries based on the workpiece and drilling conditions. TCT cutters are commonly favored over HSS when greater cutting-edge hardness is required
Yes. In addition to standard diameters, cutting depths, and shank systems, special annular cutters can be produced according to the required hole diameter, drilling depth, machine connection, workpiece material, and cutting conditions.
