Long Shank Carbide Burrs

Long shank carbide burrs for deburring, grinding, and material removal in deep holes, narrow slots, recessed areas, and other hard-to-reach positions. Available with standard carbide burr head shapes, single cut, double cut, and aluminum cut geometries, with extended steel shanks up to 1000 mm for custom applications.

Long Shank Carbide Burrs for Deep and Hard-to-Reach Areas

Persistools long shank carbide burrs are designed for grinding, deburring, weld removal, and surface finishing in deep holes, narrow slots, internal cavities, recessed areas, and other positions that cannot be easily reached with standard-length rotary burrs.

The cutting head uses the same general geometry as conventional carbide burrs, while the steel shank is extended according to the required working depth.

Custom shank lengths can be produced up to approximately 1000 mm, depending on burr head size, shank diameter, application, and operating conditions.

Standard Burr Heads with Extended Reach

Long shank burrs can be supplied with common carbide burr head shapes, including:

  • Cylindrical
  • Ball
  • Ball nose cylindrical
  • Oval
  • Tree radius
  • Tree pointed
  • Flame
  • Cone
  • Tapered radius
  • Custom profiles

This allows users to retain familiar cutting geometries while gaining additional reach for deep or restricted working areas.

Multiple Cut Types

Different tooth geometries can be selected according to the workpiece material and required cutting behavior.

Single Cut
Suitable for controlled material removal and smoother cutting.

Double Cut
Produces smaller chips and provides efficient stock removal with improved tool control.

Aluminum Cut / Non-Ferrous Cut
Uses wider flute spacing to improve chip evacuation and reduce loading when machining aluminum, copper, brass, and other non-ferrous materials.

Rigid Steel Shank Construction

The extended shank is manufactured from steel to provide the strength and rigidity required for long-reach grinding operations.

A properly selected shank diameter helps reduce bending and vibration when the burr is subjected to intermittent cutting forces and grinding impact.

For longer tools, shank straightness, concentricity, and the relationship between burr diameter and shank length become increasingly important.

Persistools can adjust the shank diameter and overall construction according to the required reach and application.

Designed for Restricted Access

Typical applications include:

  • Deep-hole deburring
  • Internal weld removal
  • Narrow slot grinding
  • Pipe and tube internal finishing
  • Casting cleanup
  • Mold and die repair
  • Internal contour machining
  • Deep cavity finishing
  • Maintenance and repair work
  • Hard-to-reach metal surfaces

Long shank carbide burrs are especially useful where the workpiece geometry prevents a conventional die grinder or standard burr from reaching the required cutting position.

Custom Lengths and Configurations

Long shank carbide burrs are usually application-specific tools.

They can be manufactured according to:

  • Required overall length
  • Working reach
  • Shank diameter
  • Burr head diameter
  • Burr head shape
  • Cut type
  • Workpiece material
  • Grinder or machine type
  • Required operating conditions

Because tool stability becomes increasingly important as shank length increases, very long burrs should be operated with suitable speed, controlled feed pressure, and proper tool support.

What are long shank carbide burrs used for?
Long shank carbide burrs are designed for grinding, deburring, weld removal, and contouring in deep holes, internal cavities, narrow slots, and other hard-to-reach areas where standard-length burrs cannot reach.
Custom long shank carbide burrs can be produced up to approximately 1000 mm overall length, depending on the burr diameter, shank diameter, cutting conditions, and required tool stability.
Yes. Common carbide burr head shapes can be combined with single cut, double cut, or aluminum cut geometries. The burr head can be selected according to the workpiece shape and processed material.
Yes. As tool length increases, vibration and deflection become more important. Long shank burrs should generally be used with controlled feed pressure and suitable rotational speed, and the shank diameter should be selected according to the required reach and burr head size.
